8 percent VAT (or MVA) on Hotel rooms in Norway from today

1 September 2006
From today - 1 September 2006 - VAT will be charged at the rate of 8% on hotel rooms in Norway. VAT - Value Added Tax, or Sales Tax - is known as MVA or moms in Norway.

Please contact us if you have questions or comments.

This pretty much means that hotel room prices will rise by about 8% from today, but some hotels are sensitive to supply and demand, so the increase may not be so much.

Update 21 September: Although nearly all hotels are showing hotel rates that include the new MVA tax, a few - including Best Western Hotels - have decided to show rates that exclude the tax. We are working to ensure that all our rates include the tax.
