Egersund Julebyen - Christmas markets

Egersund really comes to life for this annual festival and celebration of the fun and excitement of Christmas - with one of the high points being the visit by Julenissen (Santa Claus).
Good shopping and entertainment on the decorated car-free streets of the old town.

Christmas tree This is a large Christmas market - 50 to 60 wooden stalls selling all kinds of unusual items, plus food and drink. There are also singing monks selling seasonal drinks, including hot gløgg. The other shops in town also have very long opening hours.
The stars of the event are Julenissen and his local assistent nisser - that's Father Christmas and his helpers - who visit each evening. Don't worry if you don't understand the language, this is a wonderful (and very funny) planning meeting, discussing such important matters as how to get skis and other large presents down modern chimneys.

When : 2 - 5 December and 9 - 12 December 2010 (Thursdays to Sundays)

This event is growing in size and popularity. In 2009 buses were arranged from Stavanger and Sandnes on the Saturdays and Sundays, and it is likely this will happen in 2010.

Kids Verdict:
Looking around the shops is not too interesting, but the rice pudding and drinks are nice - and seeing Julenissen was great.
