If you are a tourist planning to visit here, then
avoid these dates if you need a hotel room,
because you just will not get one.
If you are going to be at the exhibition and don't yet have accommodation, then you have a
problem. As of now, you can still book some rooms for some nights in
Haugesund and there are a few rooms for all
nights in Bergen.
Now it may sound like madness (and it is) but this was also the case for most of May this year,
with a desparate scramble for rooms, and the bizarre situation of many business people taking
a plane to another part of Norway at the end of the day, just to fly back in again in the
morning.
The lack of available rooms is a problem - especially with Stavanger being the
European Capital of Culture in 2008 but until
we wake people up to what a great weekend destination this is, and to the nearby skiing
opportunities in the winter, the average room occupancy will not be high
enough to get new hotels built.
So what other options are there? Well quite a few people in suits are seen in the campsites
during ONS week (seriously) and a lot of local people either rent out one or more of their
own rooms, or book a holiday somewhere and rent out the whole house. |
