South of Stavanger - the Jaeren and Dalene areas
The Jaeren is perhaps the most unexpected part of Norway - a fairly flat peninsular with long sandy beaches flanked by dunes, with farms dotted over an open landscape of orderly fields. Believe it or not, this is the longest stretch of sandy beaches in Northern Europe, and on warm days in the summer they are swamped with almost naked people and could be taken for the Costa Del Sol (except there are few hotels, no motorway, and there is sand!). Egersund is the transition point to the Dalene area - round, bare hills with lakes inland and small coastal communities
