Suleskard road from Sirdal to Setesdal
This
scenic road is only open in the summer - the snow is deep through the
winter and around easter time it is close to the route of Sesilaami -
an annual major long-distance ski race, held before Easter. |

This is
not just a summer tourist road - it makes the journey to Oslo a couple of
hours shorter, so there are trucks and coaches as well as cars using it. There are several places to stop along the way, with walks or picnic spots - even on sandy beaches by the edge of some of the lakes, so you can enjoy the unique environment, not just use it as a gateway to the other side. From the east end highway 9 goes south through Byglandsfjord (Revsnes Hotel) and Evje to Kristiansand; north to Hovden and the E134 road; or east on RV 45 to Dalen (Dalen Hotel) and Telemark. On the west side, the RV 45 goes west to Sandnes and Stavanger with many hotels, or south on FV 468 to Tonstad. Map reference: Rogaland Fylkeskart (scale 1:200 000): 3900 65450 By car: From Stavanger take the E 39 south, then RV 45 east to Sinnes in Sirdal, and FV 468 north to Suleskard. Distance from Stavanger: 90 km Distance from Kristiansand: 140 km |
