Skiing near Bergen Norway

There is not normally usable snow in Bergen itself - although we remember being able to take the Fløyen funicular railway, put skis on and within minutes be far away from any city, deep in the mountains - global warming means that is mainly a wonderful memory, but there are many downhill resorts and cross-country ski areas within reach - Voss is only 1.5 hours away by car or train.
Many people going further afield drive to Geilo or Hemsedal in Buskerud, or take the train.

Getting here:

You can fly to Bergen from many locations. You can also arrive by ferry from Denmark or England - with a car if you want.
There are many hotels in the Bergen area - not so many close to the ski resorts.

Voss

Voss resort is only about 1.5 hours away, by car, bus or train, making it an easy daytrip - with good hotels and restaurants in the evening back in Bergen.
Several hotels in a lively town, with a cable car up from near the Bergen - Oslo railway station.

Voss Fjellandsby - Myrkdalen is 30 km north of Voss. It has a skitog (train) + skibuss service.
It is a new resort and is growing fast with one 6 seat express chairlift and a second one planned for the 2010-11 season.

Geilo

Geilo is a famous resort in Hallingdal, in Buskerud county, with quite a few hotels and hyttes for rent. About 4 hours drive from Bergen over Hardangervidda - an exciting drive. It is also on the Bergen to Oslo railway line.
It is unusual in that the slopes are split between the north and south sides of the valley.

Hemsedal

Hemsedal is a long way from Bergen - either RV 7 through Hardanger and over Hardangervidda or E 16 and RV 52 - but is a fantastic resort with great skiing and a long season. You can also take the train towards Oslo to Gol and then a bus.
There is a wide range of hotels, apartments and hyttes to choose from.

Haugestol kite skiing

Take the train towards Oslo, get off at Haugestol, for great kite skiing (not for beginners!). You can also drive over Hardangervidda towards Geilo (which also has some kite skiing).
