This
road is not easy to keep open during the winter as it crosses the mountain
plateau. The nearest road to the north is RV7
Hardangervidda 60 km away. To the south, the Suleskar
road is 80 km away but closed in the winter, and it is 160 km to RV
42 Make sure you have warm clothes, food, drink and some way to entertain yourselves while you wait in a tunnel for the snowploughs. For traffic information try telephone 175 or www.vegvesen.no Take care driving here - special danger points are tunnel entrances (they are narrow and can have snowdrifts inside or out) and sudden icy patches on a clear road. Along the way you pass Haukeliseter hytte - a popular start point for ski touring across the Setesdalheiene or Hardangervidda. This road is part of several long tours, including: Stavanger - Sauda - Hovden - Sirdal round trip Map reference: 3960 66360 By car: Drive north from Stavanger by E39 or other route (e.g. RV13) to the E134 and head east Parking: very limited By bus: The Haukeliekspressen bus service passes along this road between Oslo and Haugesund or Bergen (via Odda) Distance from Stavanger: 210 km Distance from Haugesund: 150 km |
