Stavanger Cathedral

The cathedral dates back to 1125 and originally built in Anglo-Norman style. It was damaged by fire in 1272 and a new chancel built in 1300 in Gothic style. It is the only medieval church in Norway to have retained its original style.

The cathedral is right in the centre of town, between the main harbour and Breiavatnet the lake on the other side.

A visit here combines nicely with a walk around Breivatnet lake right beside the cathedral or a walk around the markets and harbour area. Or perhaps a stroll through Gamle Stavanger to see more of the old part of town.
