Stavanger CathedralThe cathedral dates back to 1125 and originally built in Anglo-Norman style. It was damaged by fire in 1272 and a new chancel built in 1300 in Gothic style. It is the only medieval church in Norway to have retained its original style. |

The cathedral is right in the
centre of town, between the main harbour and Breiavatnet the lake on the
other side. Opening hours: 1/6-31/8, Mon-Sun, 1100-1900 1/9-31/5, Tues-Thurs and Sat, 1100-1600 Sunday morning service, 1100 Chapel matins, Wed 0800 A visit here combines nicely with a walk around Breivatnet lake right beside the cathedral or a walk around the markets and harbour area. Or perhaps a stroll through Gamle Stavanger to see more of the old part of town.
