Kjerag and Nesatind above Lysefjord
The
famous Kjerag boulder (Kjeragbolten) sits wedged between two cliff faces
with a 1000m vertical drop down to the fjord below - making it popular
with base jumpers. Kjerag itself is the plateau on the top with a magnificent
view over the impressive Lysefjord. If you are brave (and don't have a
trace of vertigo) it is possible to step onto the boulder. |

This is a difficult 5 hour hike with 3 steep climbs to get there. Once on
the plateau the walk becomes easier. Make sure you take the "diversion" to Nesatind, which has better views and is just as scary as Kjeragbolten, which you get to by clambering down a stream bed. As an alternative to the long drive back through Sirdal, take the car ferry through Lysefjord to Stavanger in the afternoon. Check times. It is advisable to book in advance.
